If you don’t live in New York State, you may not be familiar with all the vacation and tourist opportunities that the Erie Canal Corridor provides. The Erie Canalway is a National Heritage Corridor so that website is a good place to start https://eriecanalway.org/

Did you know you can take a cruise ship through the Erie Canal? Here’s a map showing the route of one that runs between New York City and Chicago.

You can canoe or kayak hundreds of miles of the Canal on the New York State Canalway Water Trail. You can request a paper copy of the Guidebook or download it here https://eriecanalway.org/explore/watertrail/guidebook You don’t have to do the whole canal. I counted 17 places where you can rent a kayak or canoe for a full- or half-day round trip.
